A modern website theme for Rock RMS

The Next Chapter for Compass

Rock RMS includes a content management system for your website, but the default theme was not designed to carry the full weight of a public-facing ministry website. Since 2021, the Compass theme has helped many churches launch their Rock RMS websites at no cost. Over time, both Rock and the web itself have continued to evolve. Rather than continuing to patch the original theme, we rebuilt Compass as a modern plugin with a new technical foundation, flexible content components, and a more adaptable design system.

Compass: Urban Hope is the first design style released within this updated framework. To support the continued development and maintenance of the theme moving forward, Compass is now offered as a paid plugin.

Simple editing for your team, thoughtful experiences for your guests.

16 Content Components

Flexible building blocks for creating modern page layouts without editing raw HTML.

Bootstrap 5 Foundation

Compass is built on a modern framework that offers better performance and flexibility than Rock’s Bootstrap 3 base.

A bold, modern visual system designed to help ministries present their message with clarity and confidence.

Ready to Get Started?

Compass: Urban Hope is available for a one-time install fee of $750. This helps offset the 200+ hours of design and development invested into the theme and allows us to continue improving and maintaining it through future updates. A portion of each purchase goes back to support continued development of Rock.

Before You Install

  • Rock RMS version 17.4 or higher
  • Font Awesome Pro license — This theme requires a Font Awesome Pro license, currently $120 per year, purchased directly from Font Awesome. Pricing is subject to change.

Do It Yourself

You can implement the theme using our documentation and video tutorials. Depending on your schedule, content readiness, and familiarity with Rock, implementation may take several weeks or longer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I upgrade from the original Compass theme?

No. The new framework is built on modern technology and best practices that do not align cleanly with the original architecture. Migration is required.

What’s different from the original Compass theme?

Compass now uses a modern framework, improved accessibility practices, better performance patterns, and a new content component system.

Does this support multi-campus?

Yes. The footer dynamically updates to display campus-specific contact information.

Does this meet accessibility standards?

Yes. The theme follows WCAG AA guidelines including keyboard navigation, labels, alt text, and other accessibility best practices.

How do I get it?

Install Compass: Urban Hope directly from the Rock Shop.

Does this theme represent the final design of our website?

No. Compass: Urban Hope provides a strong foundation for a modern Rock RMS website, but it is not intended to be the final expression of your ministry. Most ministries continue to adapt the theme over time by adjusting colors, layouts, content components, and imagery to better reflect their ministry.

Will the theme continue to be updated as Rock RMS changes?

Yes. Software platforms evolve, and Rock RMS updates can occasionally introduce unexpected issues. Because Compass: Urban Hope is now a paid theme, the model allows us to maintain the theme and release updates when necessary to keep it compatible with newer Rock versions.

Why does editing content directly on the page sometimes feel awkward?

Rock’s in-page editor is nested inside the content container, which can make editing feel cramped or visually confusing depending on the layout. For the most consistent editing experience, we recommend using Rock’s internal page editor instead of editing directly on the page.

Will the icons always match the rest of the site?

Starting with Rock v18, the platform uses Tabler icons in some core areas. These icons are generally thinner than Font Awesome icons used by many themes. Font Awesome can still be used alongside them, but you may occasionally notice slight visual differences in weight or style.

Is installing a new theme always the best way to improve a website?

Not necessarily. In many cases, improvements to content, page structure, and navigation can have a greater impact than changing themes. A new theme provides a modern foundation, but the overall effectiveness of a website still depends heavily on how content is organized and presented.
